# Teams

> Organize members into teams and assign service ownership.

Teams let you group members by function (e.g. Platform, Payments, Frontend) and assign them as owners of specific services and incidents.

Go to **Teams** in the sidebar.

***

## Creating a team

1. Click **New team**.
2. Fill in:
   * **Name** — the team name (e.g. `Platform Engineering`)
   * **Slack channel** — optional: a Slack channel for this team (e.g. `#platform-eng`)
   * **Description** — optional short description
3. Click **Save**.

***

## Adding members to a team

1. Open the team.
2. Click **Add member**.
3. Search for the org member by name or email.
4. Click **Add**.

Members can belong to multiple teams. There is no role difference between team members — team roles (lead, on-call) are informal labels.

***

## Assigning services to a team

In the **Services** detail, set the **Team** field to associate a service with a team. This links:

* Ownership visibility in the service catalog
* Alert routing rules (coming soon)
* Incident auto-assignment (coming soon)

***

## Notification channel

Set a team Slack channel to receive team-specific notifications. When an incident affects a service owned by this team, Obsy posts a notification to the team's channel in addition to the general incidents channel.

***

## Removing a team

Open the team and click **Delete team**. Members are not removed from the organization — they remain as org members. Services that referenced this team lose their team assignment.
